Press release: Bridges over Route 740 and Grindstone Creek to Open May 22

May 21, 2014 – For immediate release
Bridges over Route 740 and Grindstone Creek to Open May 22

Route 63 Northbound off-ramp to Route WW (Broadway) to close May 27

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Improvements to two bridges along northbound Route 63 in Columbia are scheduled to be completed this week. The northbound Route 63 bridges over Route 740 (Stadium Boulevard) and Grindstone Creek will open on Thursday, May 22, one day ahead of schedule.

Meanwhile, weather permitting, crews will begin rehabilitating the Route 63 northbound off-ramp to the Route WW (Broadway) bridge over Hominy Creek on Tuesday, May 27. That work will close the ramp from 7 p.m. on May 27 until 6 a.m. on Friday, June 6.

Northbound motorists needing to access Broadway Street or Route WW will be detoured north of Broadway to Vandiver Drive, where they will exit the highway, cross over Route 63 and then will access Route 63 south.  They can then exit back onto Broadway from the north. Weather permitting, similar work is planned for the southbound on-ramp from Route WW over Hominy Creek beginning the week of June 9.

Closing the bridge ramps will increase safety and will minimize backups onto Route 63 during peak travel times. A total closure also allows repairs to be made in significantly fewer days.
