Bits and pieces: Primary Day

Saint Louis, Mo. — Missourians have until 7 to take to the polls in today’s primary. Here are a few things that have happened since late last night, before polls opened:

  • In the 76th House district primary, Rep. Josh Peters is locked in an ugly battle with Chris Carter Sr. Literature with no indicated funders was sent out to the district claiming Peters “was chared [sic] with Child Molestation in Madison, IL,” and that “He stole a young boy’s innocence.”
    • Neither campaign could be immediately reached for comment. The Missouri Times is currently investigating the piece.
  • Conservative radio personality Dana Loesch posted on her website and sent out several tweets blasting 98th House district candidate Rea Scharnhorst. Rea is the wife of incumbent Dwight Scharnhorst and is currently engaged in a nasty primary. The post features a number of screenshots of comments supposedly made by Rea through her personal Facebook account. Rea engaged in an aggressive exchange with one supporter of her opponent, Shamed Dogan.
    • “You all will get what is deserved while I don’t have to do a thing. Just sit back and watch,” the post reads.
    • Loesch read several of Scharnhorst’s posts on her show this afternoon.
    • The Scharnhorst campaign could not be reached for comment.
  • A controversial ballot measure, Proposition A, was approved for the November ballot. Championed by Teach Great — one of many education reform groups funded by conservative mega-donor Rex Sinquefield — the measure would effectively eliminate teacher tenure in Missouri and give more breadth to local school districts in drawing up teacher contracts. The measure is sure to be one of the most hotly debated in the general election.
