Sen. Schmitt Re-Elected to Senate Leadership

Leadership Positions for the 98th General Assembly Selected Today

JEFFERSON CITY— State Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Glendale, was re-elected by his peers today as the Chairman of the Missouri Senate Majority Caucus.

It is customary for members of the majority and minority parties in the Senate to meet after the General Election to nominate leaders for the new legislative session that begins in January.  Senator Schmitt was elected to his position in a party caucus held in the Senate Lounge.

“It is an honor to be chosen by my colleagues for this important leadership position,” said Sen. Schmitt.  “I am looking forward to working with our new leadership and my peers in the Missouri Senate to improve our state and to continue to serve the interests of the 15th Senatorial District.”

Sen. Schmitt has been a part of the Senate Republican Leadership team since his election as Majority Secretary in 2010, and was then elected to serve his first term as Caucus Chairman in 2012 during the 97th General Assembly.

He will remain Chairman of the Senate Committee on Jobs, Economic Development and Local Government, as post he has held since 2011.

The First Regular Session of the 98th General Assembly will convene in Jefferson City on Jan. 7, 2015.
