MHA letter lists 500 organizations supporting Medicaid expansion

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Supporters of Medicaid expansion have largely been told by legislative leaders in the Capitol that their issue has very little chance of legislative success. But that won’t be stopping a broad coalition of groups from treating it as a top issue this session.

The Missouri Hospital Association, along with the Missouri Primary Care Association, the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, the Missouri Medicaid Coalition, and more,  began the legislative session by sending a letter to every elected official in the Capitol titled “Let’s Talk About Medicaid.”

“The hundreds of organizations included in this letter, who support Medicaid reform in 2015, represent more than 1 million Missourians. Currently, four states that border Missouri have gained health care coverage for their citizens through Medicaid and a fifth has the issue under consideration,” the letter reads.

The brief letter ends on an optimistic note, hopeful that the General Assembly will “build on the work,” of the last two years.
