JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Every weekend, Caroline McClung drives back to her district and her home, in Sikeston, Mo.

She doesn’t live in town during session, or even nearby in Columbia. No, she lives at home, and spends the work week in Jefferson City.

She says it helps with her work. After all, it’s a lot easier to talk to your constituents when you actually know your constituents.

“People will call our office, constituents, and I actually know them personally,” McClung said. “And if I don’t know them, I know someone who does. That’s the benefit of staying in-touch with home.”

Apart from trying to eat healthy and keep the gym in her schedule, McClung works to keep Rep. Holly Rehder, R-Sikeston, up-to-speed.

Lucky for both of them, McClung likes working on utilities legislation, and Rehder’s seat on the Appropriations committee for utilities means they’re both getting plenty of work this year.

A fluent Spanish speaker, McClung spent a year in Mexico and visited all 36 Mexican states in her time south of the border. After a year abroad, the soccer player and former campaign manager has one other passion keeping her going home every weekend: her two-year-old-son.
