DED: Truman named top school, state sees job growth

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. — Missouri has the top college in the country for your dollar, and the state has increased it’s nonfarm workforce, according to Missouri’s Department of Economic Development.

Consumers Digest compiled a list of America’s top 100 college values and ranked Truman State University in Kirksville at No. 1 for public institutions. Criteria included educational quality measured against tuition costs and fees, along with the academic performance of freshmen students.

The news came from DED along with the latest jobs report from May, which says Missouri added roughly 6,600 jobs in the private nonfarm sector in May. Missouri added jobs in leisure and hospitality, transportation and utilities, construction, and business services.

Missouri’s unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 5.8 percent in May. The information comes as the result of data compiled by the Missouri economic Research and Information Center.
