Lt. Governor Peter Kinder statement on continued unrest, tragedy in Ferguson

JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder today condemned the tragic death of Jamyla Bolden and the continued lack of action and leadership from Governor Jay Nixon and Attorney General Chris Koster.

“The difference between chaos and a civil society is law and order,” Kinder said. “Yesterday’s tragic and senseless death of Jamyla Bolden is an example of the innocent being left to the hands of those who wish to do harm. This must end.

“In previous weeks, Governor Nixon and Attorney General Koster have again abdicated their responsibilities of protecting the people of this state, instead spending that time voting to funnel millions of tax dollars to build a redundant sports arena. They see this as a solution to the problem. It isn’t. Building relationships and restoring trust between our elected leaders, law enforcement and citizens is what these hurting communities need. Sadly, Jay Nixon and Chris Koster have shown little interest in this vital work.

“I call on Governor Nixon and Attorney General Koster to begin work with local government and community leaders to heal the St. Louis area. The walls of fear must come down, and law and order must be restored to our state’s largest metropolitan area.”
