Gov. Nixon makes appointments to Jackson County Sports Complex Authority, Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon today appointed members to the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority and to the State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors. The appointments will be subject to approval by the Missouri Senate.

The Governor has re-appointed Garry Kemp, of Lee’s Summit, to the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority. The authority oversees the maintenance and operation of the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex; administers funds received from the State of Missouri, Jackson County and the City of Kansas City; studies location, feasibility, and design of sports and recreational facilities; and acquires, constructs, operates, maintains, and leases to other sports stadiums, field houses, indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, parking facilities and suitable concessions.

Kemp is retired as executive vice president of the Greater KC Building and Construction Trades Council of the AFL-CIO, and has 40 years experience in the building and construction trades industry. In addition, he serves on the boards of the Missouri Technology Corporation and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas City. The Governor has re-appointed Kemp for a term ending July 15, 2020.

The Governor also has appointed Kenneth G. McGhee (D), of Hazelwood, to the State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors. The board is charged with the responsibility of licensing embalmers, funeral directors, and funeral establishments; registers pre-need providers and sellers; and regulates these professions in accordance with state law.

McGhee is a funeral director who has been with Archway Memorial Chapel in Hazelwood since 1985. He previously served on the State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors from 2002 to 2007 and has served on the State Board of Private Investigators and Fire Investigators since 2008. The Governor has appointed McGhee for a term ending April 1, 2019.
