South Capitol entrances closed for renovations

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The south side entrances to the Missouri Capitol building closed Friday as part of ongoing renovations to the facility. The entrances closed include the carriage drive doors, the doors on both sides of the carriage drive and the bronze doors at the top of the south stairs.

Other entrances will be open during that time for state employees, those working with the state and visitors. The latter can access the building from the east and west entrances during standard hours, and disability access will be available through the Capitol garage, at the lower level of the east side of the building.

The General Assembly and Gov. Jay Nixon appropriated $40 million for Capitol repair projects in the last legislative session. The sub-structure of the building, as well as the stonework on the outside of the building, has deteriorated from age and water infiltration.

Currently, there is no word yet on how long those entrances will be closed.
