Kander announces $3 Million grant for new voting machines and updates

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Secretary of State Jason Kander this morning announced his office will make available $3 million in grant funding for new voting machines and other election assistance throughout Missouri. Kander made the announcement during his early morning speech to the Missouri Association of County Clerks and Election Authorities annual conference in Branson.

“I am pleased to announce that my office will provide $3 million in grants to help counties cover some of the cost of unfunded state and federal mandates,” Kander said. “Congress implemented new requirements and funding for new machines and other equipment 13 years ago, but stuck states and local election authorities with the bill after the initial funding ran out. That’s not right, so I’m glad our office is going to be able to help counties buy some of the equipment they need.”

Kander has directed his office to offer $1 million in general-purpose grants. Additionally, Kander’s office will offer $2 million for the specific purpose of replacing voting equipment.
