Gov. Nixon makes appointments to nursing, therapeutic massage boards

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon today announced his appointments to the Board of Therapeutic Massage and the Missouri State Board of Nursing. The appointees will be subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate.

Board of Therapeutic Massage

The Governor has appointed Jennifer S. Griffin, of Jefferson City; and re-appointed Jennifer T. Morgan, of Independence; and Brandy M. Mouser, of Dexter, to the Board of Therapeutic Massage.  The board is responsible for protecting the public from unlicensed, negligent, incompetent, and dishonest services relating to massage therapy and massage therapy businesses; and enforces licensure standards through the implementation of legislation and administrative regulations.

Griffin has been appointed to the public member position on the board. She is an attorney in private practice with Lathrop & Gage LLP and has been with the firm since 2004. Griffin obtained her law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law and her undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri. The Governor has appointed her for a term ending June 17, 2019.

Morgan is on the staff at The Spa at Briarcliff, in Kansas City. She previous was the spa supervisor at the Elms Resort and Spa in Excelsior Springs, and has 17 years’ experience working in spas in Missouri. Morgan obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The Governor has re-appointed her for a term ending June 17, 2018

Mouser is a licensed massage therapist, cosmetologist and esthetician. She is the owner of Salon 10 LLC, in Dexter, and has more than 20 years of experience in the field of massage therapy. The Governor has re-appointed her for a term ending June 17, 2017.

Missouri State Board of Nursing

The Governor has appointed Anne Heyen, of Ashland, to the Missouri State Board of Nursing. The Board of Nursing protects the public; licenses by examination, endorsement, and renewal; regulates the quality of nursing education; disciplines the licenses of nurses who violate the Nursing Practice Act; and determines the scope of practice for licensed individuals.

Heyen, a registered nurse, has been an assistant professor of nursing at Lincoln University since 2005 and serves as an instructor and academic advisor for nursing and pre-nursing students. She also was a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City from 2004 to 2013. The Governor has appointed Heyen for a term ending June 1, 2018.
