JEFFERSON CITY, MO (Oct. 02, 2015) Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has announced her office has begun an audit of the Buck Prairie Special Road District, which was created in 1902 to maintain rural roads near the city of Marionville, in Lawrence County.
“Across the state special road districts provide a valuable service, ensuring Missouri roads are safe and passable for rural Missourians,” Galloway said. “At the request of the citizens of Buck Prairie Special Road District, my office will conduct a thorough review of the district and provide a report on the board’s operations, policies and use of tax dollars.”
Under Missouri law, the State Auditor`s Office may be called upon to audit a public entity, such as a city, school district or other taxing district, through a petition process. For the Buck Prairie Special Road District audit, 262 signatures were required and 286 signatures were certified as valid by the Lawrence County Clerk.
