Lt. Governor Kinder Questions Nixon for Withholding Funds from Seniors

Kinder renews call for explanation of budget cuts to frail and elderly

JEFFERSON CITY — Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder renews his call for Governor Nixon to release funds he’s withholding from necessary services for seniors and children.

“As the Senior Advocate for Missouri, I’m trusted to defend our seniors and fight for them. This past Tuesday, I called on Gov. Nixon to release the money he unilaterally cut from education, law enforcement, and services for our most vulnerable residents,” Kinder said. “In more than 48 hours, I’ve had no response from the Governor explaining these withholdings or why he is threatening Missouri’s vital programs. What is his reason for cutting $46 million in services when the state has seven times that amount in unspent budget surplus?

“The Nixon cuts will eliminate much-needed improvements in Missouri’s elder-care,” Kinder continued. “This issue affects countless Missourians who benefit from these programs and/or have loved ones who do. I will continue to demand an explanation for these withholdings from Gov. Nixon when we have a $325 million budget surplus. The citizens of Missouri, especially our seniors, deserve to know.”
