#MSTAadvocate implores legislators to listen to educators in the 2016 legislative session

Columbia, MO –  The goal of the #MSTAadvocate hashtag campaign is to encourage Missouri legislators, Democrat and Republican, to listen to the concerns and requests of teachers and focus on issues that matter to educators prior to and during the 2016 legislative session.

The first phase of the #MSTAadvocate initiative kicked off at the Missouri State Teachers Association’s 2015 State Meeting on November 11.

The overarching themes of the first tweets include:

  • less testing for students
  • listening to educators when crafting education policy
  • allowing for more time teaching instead of testing and paperwork

“Missouri educators are the experts on what is best for their students,” Mike Wood, MSTA’s Director of Government Relations said. “We encourage legislators to listen to classroom teachers and spend time in classrooms building relationships with educators.”

Educators will continue using #MSTAadvocate through the end of the 2016 legislative session.
