Letter from Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder to Gov. Nixon about refugees

Nov. 16, 2015

Governor Jay Nixon

State Capitol, Room 216

Jefferson City, MO 65101

Dear Governor Nixon:

Given the tragic terrorist attacks in Paris, France, this weekend and the threat of additional attacks in the United States, I urge you to refuse to accept any of the Syrian refugees being located to Missouri until the federal government ensures a proper vetting procedure is in place.

I am certain you share my concern that we must ensure, above all other considerations, the safety and security of all Missourians. We must be certain the federal government’s security measures are thorough and effectively implemented and that terrorists are not coming to Missouri masquerading as refugees.

I respectfully ask that you direct all the appropriate state agencies to suspend the resettlement of Syrian refugees in Missouri until those assurances are satisfied.

Sincerely,

PETER D. KINDER

Lieutenant Governor
