SUNDAY: Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II to Campaign for Clinton in Grand Strand 

Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II (MO-05), a United Methodist Pastor, will campaign for Hillary Clinton in the Grand Strand on Sunday, November 22. In addition to visiting area churches, he will be the keynote speaker at the Horry County Democratic Party’s 4th Annual SHORE Celebration. 

In his remarks at the luncheon, which commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, Cleaver will outline Clinton’s vision to expand access to the ballot box for all Americans. He will also discuss Clinton’s plans to fight for affordable health care and expand Medicaid. 

Congressman Cleaver is now serving his sixth term representing Missouri’s Fifth Congressional District. Having served for twelve years on the city council of Missouri’s largest municipality, Kansas City, Cleaverwas elected as the city’s first African American Mayor in 1991.

Cleaver received a M.A. in Divinity from St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, and was pastor of St. James United Methodist Church in Kansas City from 1972–2009. During that time, the congregation grew from 47 members to more than 2,000.
