RELEASE John Brunner Campaign Opposes Obama/Greitens Plan to Relocate Guantanamo Bay Terrorist Detainees to American Soil

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – John Brunner campaign spokesman Michael Hafner issued the following statement today regarding President Barack Obama and Missouri gubernatorial candidate Eric Greitens’ shared plan to close the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba terrorist detention center and relocate terrorists to American soil:

John Brunner condemns President Obama’s action to close Guantanamo Bay which places our families and communities at risk by transporting the most dangerous terrorists to facilities within the borders of the United States where they can radicalize other prisoners and create new terrorist targets.

As governor, John Brunner will fight to keep terrorists from being transferred to anywhere near Missouri – such as Fort Leavenworth, KS – the Department of Defense’s only maximum security prison located a mile and a half from Missouri.

John Brunner stands in complete opposition to Eric Greitens who has stood in strong and unequivocal support of President Obama in closing Guantanamo Bay. We categorically disagree with Mr. Greitens’s statement: “Closing the prison at Guantanamo Bay is a complex and difficult challenge, but also a necessary step.”

John Brunner is unyielding in his commitment of his oath as a U.S. Marine, to defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. He has pledged to continue to uphold this oath as Governor of Missouri.
