Release: Kasich Returns Goguen Contribution, Time For Greitens To Do Same

Greitens Refusal Raises Character Questions

St. Louis- Former federal prosecutor and gubernatorial candidate Catherine Hanaway called yesterday for Greitens to cut all ties to Michael Goguen and return the $1 million Goguen has donated to Greitens’s campaign. In an interview with Jo Mannies of St. Louis Public Radio on January 26, Greitens said Goguen is a “patriot” and that he is “honored that he’s invested” in the Greitens campaign. The recording can be found on the St. Louis Public Radio website at the 37:15 minute mark.

The donor in question, Michael Goguen, is being sued under allegations that Goguen sexually abused a woman over the course of a decade. Goguen’s employer, Sequoia Capital, thought the allegations were serious enough to cut all ties with him which is something Greitens has chosen not to do. Presidential candidate, John Kasich’s Super PAC has already returned a $250,000 donation from Goguen after the allegations came to light.

“At a bare minimum, Mr. Greitens’s contributor has admitted to a sexual relationship with the victim and paid her $10 million in hush money. As a former prosecutor, I know just how difficult it is for victimized women to be heard,” Hanaway said. “I applaud Sequoia Capital and the Kasich campaign for taking the victim’s allegations seriously and taking decisive action. I am troubled that Mr. Greitens refuses to act, and his campaign continues to hide behind litigation saying ‘allow the legal process to run its course and sort out the facts.'”

“Missouri is the Show-Me-State. It is time for Mr. Greitens to show Missourians that he is willing to do what is right. Instead, he is showing Missourians that while he talks a good game about cleaning up politics he would rather defend his out-of-state billionaire contributor than take action,” said Hanaway.
