Obituary: Deann Overfelt

Mrs. Deann Dunkeson Overfelt, age 58 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the University Hospital, Columbia, Mo.

Deann was born February 24, 1958 in Columbia, Mo. the daughter of Robert L. and Betty Jo Bryson Dunkeson. She was married on August 24, 1996 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Craig L. Overfelt.

A resident of Jefferson City for most of her life, Deann was a 1976 graduate of Jefferson City High School and a 1980 graduate of Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.

A homemaker, Deann was also employed as a Realtor in Jefferson City for several years. Earlier, she was employed as a Dispatcher at the Rocky Mountain National Park and with Colorado Mountain College.

Deann was a member of the First Christian Church.

She enjoyed the outdoors by biking, skiing, hiking, and canoeing. Her greatest enjoyment was traveling with husband and family. She loved animals, especially her dog, Jesse, and her cat, Rocky.

Survivors include: her husband of nearly twenty years, Craig Overfelt; her mother, Betty Jo Dunkeson of Jefferson City, Mo.; two step children, Christine Overfelt of Columbia, Mo. and Spencer Overfelt of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Patti Newman and her husband Tom of Ft. Collins, Colorado; her father and mother-in-law, Sam and Gloria Overfelt of Jefferson City, Mo.; three brothers-in law, David Overfelt and his wife Shu Ye of Jefferson City, Mo., Eric Overfelt and his wife Catherine of Havelock, North Carolina, and Wayne Nielsen of Ennis, Montana; and five nieces and nephews, Sara Newman, Erica Overfelt, Andrea Overfelt, John Overfelt, and David Overfelt,.

She was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Cindy Nielsen.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 9:00 until 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.

A Celebration of Deann’s Life will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 5, 2016 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Beau Underwood officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
