MRL endorses Trump for president

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Right to Life (MRL), the state’s anti-abortion advocacy and lobbying group, announced Monday they are endorsing Donald Trump for president the same day as the Republican National Convention kicks off.

MRL said Trump has three qualities making him their choice: he has pledged to pursue pro-life ideals and appoint pro-life judges; he selected Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, a fervent anti-abortion advocate during his time in politics; and perhaps most importantly, Trump is not former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“We believe Hillary Clinton, as president, would yield the most disastrous era of danger to life in American history and perhaps for generations to come,” wrote Dave Plemmons, the group’s PAC chairman, in a statement. “A Hillary Clinton presidency would accelerate the anti-life path of Barack Obama.”

However, Trump has been in hot water this election cycle for comments he made about abortion where he said that a woman must be punished should she have an abortion which angered both pro-choice and pro-life groups. Though he quickly reiterated his position over the course of the next few days, it raised many eyebrows among anti-abortion supporters.

Trump has also said in the past that he is pro-choice but that his views on abortion have changed in the last 15 years. That statement, combined with his selection of the Pence, appears to be enough to give anti-abortion groups a reason to support him.
