(JEFFERSON CITY, MO) – Charles E. Smith, an English teacher and president of the Missouri National Education Association, announced the MNEA endorsement of Attorney General Chris Koster.

“Chris Koster’s record of service and advocacy for children makes him the clear choice for governor,” Smith said. “Chris Koster’s advocacy on behalf of children reaches back to his roots as Cass County prosecutor where he worked tirelessly to protect children who were victims of domestic violence. As governor, we know Chris Koster will bring the same advocacy to ensuring every student, regardless of zip code, has the opportunity succeed in a great public school.”

The 35,000-member MNEA represents teachers, education support professionals, college faculty, retired educators and students studying to be teachers in school districts and on college campuses throughout the state. It is the Missouri affiliate of the 3.2 million-member NEA.

“The educators of MNEA are proud to make this recommendation after receiving input from educators across the state and reviewing Chris Koster’s strong record of advocating for well-resourced public schools that set every student in Missouri off toward a great future,” Smith said.
