Release: Schmitt Announces ‘Pro-Second Amendment Coalition’ in Campaign for Missouri Treasurer

            Glendale, Missouri – Sen. Eric Schmitt’s campaign for state treasurer today announced his “Pro-Second Amendment Coalition,” a grassroots coalition to help inform Missourians about his strong and unyielding support for Missourians’ Second Amendment rights.

            “As a sixth-generation Missourian I, like many Missouri families, enjoy spending time in our great outdoors and hunting.  Missourians also exercise their Second Amendment right to own a firearm in order to protect their loved ones and property,” Schmitt said.  “Now more than ever we must remain vigilant against the forces of the far left who want to eradicate our Constitutional right to own and bear firearms.”

            Schmitt is a strong defender of the Second Amendment.  He has supported efforts to protect and strengthen Missourians rights to conceal and carry and the rights of all lawful firearm owners. 

            Schmitt also supported allowing more law-abiding citizens to have access to concealed carry permits. (lowered age from 21 to 19, SB 656, 2014). Schmitt voted to protect the privacy of law-abiding gun owners by barring healthcare professionals from asking patients about their gun ownership or documenting such gun ownership in a patient’s medical records. (SB 656, 2014). Further, Schmitt voted to prohibit concealed carry permit information from being distributed to federal, state or private entities. (SB 745, 2014). Schmitt voted to put the question of whether the right to keep and bear arms is an unalienable right to the voters – and Missourians overwhelmingly said yes, adding even stronger Second Amendment protections to the Missouri Constitution. (SJR 36, 2014 (Schaefer).
