TWMP: Carnahan and Election Day Predictions

On the last episode of This Week in Missouri Politics before the election, host Scott Faughn talks with former Congressman and Democratic Lt. Gov. candidate Russ Carnahan about what he has learned on the campaign trail, support for him from the Humane Society Legislative Fund, connecting to his rural roots, and whether or not Hillary Clinton’s likely loss in the state will drag the rest of the Democratic ticket down.

“We’ve not see a lot of coattails from either candidate at the top, and people are looking at these individual races in terms of who’s standing up for them,” Carnahan said.

On the opinion maker panel, Faughn speaks with longtime friends of the show, Sarah Wood Martin from Gateway Government Relations, Vote Yes on 3 for Kids spokesperson Jane Dueker, attorney David Steelman and Sen. Bob Onder, R-St. Charles.

They discuss the presidential race in Missouri, including Donald Trump’s big lead in the state and whether or not he’s helping other Republicans on the ticket.

“I really think there are coattail effects in certain races,” Onder said. “I think Rob Vescovo and Dan Shaul are benefitting big time from Trump’s popularity in that county.”

The panel also talks about the neck-and-neck contest between U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt and Jason Kander, and how Kander has managed to make that

“I’ve always been saying… Jason is going to surprise everybody and he has,” Dueker said. “I think the establishment angle is working, and it’s working very well.”

They also discuss the governor’s race as Greitens narrowly overtakes Koster in the Missouri Times polling, as well as the other statewide ballot races.
