Department of Public Safety, Highway Patrol in compliance with constitutionally-mandated use of highway funds

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo (Dec. 6, 2016) Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has released an audit of the Missouri Highway Patrol’s use of highway funds. The audit is required by state law and includes a review of the highway patrol’s management of appropriated highway funds, which are limited by the Missouri Constitution to activities related to administering and enforcing state motor vehicle laws and traffic regulations.

During fiscal year 2016, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a division of the Missouri Department of Public Safety, spent approximately $214 million from the State Highway and Transportation Fund. The audit found the Missouri State Highway Patrol to be in compliance with legal provisions related to the use of highway funds. A complete copy of the report can be found online here.
