Guest Post: Grading Education Bills Announced As Workforce Development Week Starts

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Today the JG Circle of Hope’s executive director and legislative consultant Elizabeth Lauber announced that as a Missouri complement to Washington’s “workforce development week” the organization will grade education bills during the 2018 session by focusing on how the bills will help all students, including the economically challenged students the organization fights for, to pass high school and gain viable employment.

“It’s ‘workforce development’ week in Washington and so here in Missouri it’s a timely opportunity to champion education as a necessary component to building a strong workforce here in Missouri,” Lauber said. “It’s not a partisan call on our part. Education and workforce development advances will take all hands-on deck including legislators, educators and administrators, the Governor’s team, parents and other community organizations and stakeholders.”

“Educators grade students and so it’s fitting to talk the same language and start grading education bills,” Lauber continued.

The JG Circle of hope is a spinoff of the non-profit JG Foundation. JG stands for John Gewinner, who passed away from cancer before he could realize his professional aspirations. JG Circle of Hope’s focus has been on expanding and integrating CTE in Missouri including a now law to create the CTE Certificate in high schools, and removing the obstacle of cost by making the high school equivalency exam free for the students who have dropped out.

“We all can agree that dropping out is a process not an event, and for the students who do drop out making the exam free can set them on the right road. For students who aren’t college bound or immediately heading to college after high school, a CTE Certificate also puts them on the road to a job, a career, and possibilities for their futures.”

Lauber concluded: “Let’s evaluate what works and what needs work. JG Circle of Hope do will its part.”
