Who’s hot and who’s not: Aug. 26 issue

hot

Paul Curtman’s “In defense of liberty” event is (or was) HOT

Based on the tweets, it appears that Rep. Paul Curtman, R-Pacific, had one heck of an event Saturday night with a line up of Republican representatives as well as party leaders and candidates. From what we hear, it was successful in turnout and in messaging.

Twitter debates that end respectfully are HOT

In case you missed it, one of the many debates in the last week or so on Twitter was between Sen. Ryan Silvey, R-Kansas City, and AFSCME 72 Executive Director Jeff Mazur. Here’s the thing that went right in their debate that we think deserves some praise: they agreed to disagree. Keep that in mind next time you engage with someone from across the aisle on a very public platform.

Catering to your constituents’ language differences is HOT

Rep. Elijah Haahr, R-Springfield, created a Twitter account last week that is entirely in Spanish. We have yet to see anyone do this and frankly thought it was a great move. The more constituents that are being engaged, the better. Hopefully, more will follow Haahr’s lead.

The governor and the legislature are NOT

Whoa — did they go there?

Yes, we did.

Why? Because the story of what is happening at Fulton State Hospital is terrifying.

Of all of the issues that these two branches of government deal with, everyone agrees that something needs to change. It’s the avenue that’s unclear. We hope you figure it out soon. Those employees and patients deserve better than what the state is providing them.
