Onder hosts fundraising event for Senate race

LAKE ST. LOUIS, Mo. — State Senate hopeful Dr. Bob Onder hosted a $25 per person campaign event at the Lake Forest Country Club tonight, as the three-time candidate continues to fight for the 2nd Senatorial District seat, which will be vacated next year by term-limited Sen. Scott Rupp.

Onder touted his support for Republican Party positions, vowing to fight against the Affordable Care Act and oppose Medicaid expansion. Onder spoke out against “regulatory burdens” on businesses and the need to protect the rights of gun owners.

Several local Republican committee members were in attendance, including County Central Republican Committee Chair Jon Bennett, Vice Chair Sandy Garber and Secretary Cindy Evans.

Additionally, Rep. Anne Zerr, R-St. Charles, spoke about Onder’s conservative values.

“He’s a rational and thoughtful policy maker and I think that’s what St. Charles people expect out of their elected officials,” Zerr says of Onder.

Onder’s comments included nods to intentions to fight for a tax cut as well as his support of Right-to-Work legislation.

Sponsors could donate an additional $1,000, $500, or $250 to become an official “Red,” “White” or “Blue” sponsor, respectively, and in total about 75 people were in attendance.

Onder says he is energized about this race, and that his family shares his excitement.

“Allison and I have always said we would consider running again if there were ways we could make a difference,” Onder says. “And I’m here to tell you that the state senate race in 2014 is that race. At this time in our state’s history, now more than ever, we need principal effective conservative leadership to move our state forward.”
