The Hot List – Oct. 17 Issue

Missouri sports are HOT

This goes without explanation, we hope. Between the St. Louis Cardinals and their success during the postseason, Mizzou staying undefeated, the St. Louis Blues and the Rams both doing pretty well and the Kansas City Chiefs hanging out near the top of the AFC Western Division, Missouri sports are giving even more of a reason for the out-of-state haters — like Deadspin’s Drew Magary — a reason to keep talking. That’s okay. It clearly makes our teams work harder. Also, in case you haven’t already read Magary’s piece on “Why your Cardinals suck,” you should. He is wrong but it is still funny.

Missouri’s Tax Foundation ranking is HOT

Last week, Missouri was ranked No. 16 out of 50  for the best overall business tax climate, beating out Kansas that ranked 20 and trailing behind Texas, which ranked at 11. Missouri ranked better than seven of its eight neighboring states, with Tennessee coming in at 15. The components involved in the ranking were each state’s corporate tax rank, individual income tax rank, sales tax rank, unemployment insurance tax rank and property tax rank. Missouri ranked top 10 for corporate tax (seven), unemployment insurance tax (nine) and property tax rates (seven).

The race for St. Louis County Executive is HOT

Of course there is still time, but the conversation about St. Louis County Executive continues to dominate conversations in the eastern part of the state. Some support of sitting Executive Charlie Dooley is still dropping as talk about Councilman Steve Stenger, another Democrat, running against him keeps up. But, there still is no solid word on whether the Democrats have a Republican opponent.
