Press Release: North Kansas City Hospital joins Midwest Cancer Alliance

NORTH KANSAS CITY, MO. – Jan. 2, 2013 – North Kansas City Hospital is the newest member of the Midwest Cancer Alliance (MCA), a membership-based organization that works to improve cancer care across the region by providing access to the latest advancements close to home. Through MCA, North Kansas City Hospital now has access to major clinical trials, professional education, patient navigation services, networking and outreach opportunities.

“Our new partnership with the Midwest Cancer Alliance means additional research and clinical resources and enhances our partnership with The University of Kansas Cancer Center,” said Peggy Schmitt, president and CEO of North Kansas City Hospital. “This collaboration helps further ensure that cancer patients in the Northland have access to the latest cancer treatments.”

As a member, the hospital will be able to expand cancer care services by:
• Providing patients access to additional advanced clinical trials, including new trials developed at The University of Kansas Cancer Center,
• Offering consultation and second opinion services for cancer diagnoses through telemedicine, a technology that connects patient and doctor when distance separates the two, and
• Expanding continuing professional education and access to an established network of cancer professionals in the region.

About North Kansas City Hospital: For more than half a century, North Kansas City Hospital has been at the forefront of providing medical care in the Northland. The hospital is an acute-care facility with 451 licensed beds with specialties in cardiac care, cancer care, women’s health, orthopedics, emergency services and minimally invasive surgery.
