Press Release: State Rep. Donna Lichtenegger Reaffirms Her Support for Second Amendment Rights

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – State Rep. Donna Lichtenegger responded to misleading allegations regarding her position on the right to bear arms.  The National Gun Rights Association (NRGA) and NGRA member Dudley Brown have refused to issue an apology for misrepresenting Rep. Lichtenegger as less than 100 percent for Second Amendment Rights.

A February 21 mass-email sent by NGRA member, Dudley Brown, to fellow NRGA members mischaracterized Rep. Lichtenegger as a swing vote for Senate Bill 613.

“Mr. Brown’s portrayal of me as weak on gun rights was irresponsible and therefore to some degree portrays the organization as unreasonable,” said Lichtenegger, R-Cape Girardeau.

Lichtenegger became aware of the email February 26 and immediately contacted Mr. Brown who did not respond to her request for an explanation. She finally contacted the NRGA and received a response from NGRA’s Ryan Flugaur. He revealed the source of the misguided rumor as a news article which accurately explained her concern with the 2013 House Bill 436 language. Even though that news article explained her concern with last year’s bill, Mr. Flugaur left it up to her to clarify her position with the public and NGRA members.

“National Gun Rights Association representative, Mr. Flugaur, doesn’t seem to be in touch with how gun-rights advocates interpret the term ‘swing vote’.  Having a concern for legislative language in one bill does not nullify my stand on second amendment gun rights.  If a legislator has a legitimate question regarding ANY bill, they should get an answer before voting. I would assume my constituents would appreciate such a cautionary step. Mr. Brown and the NGRA would do well to speak directly with legislators before publicizing misleading information,” she said.

“I have been and will always be a protector of Second Amendment Rights,” said Lichtenegger.  “To indicate otherwise is just not true.”
