Nixon signs six bills into law

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Gov. Jay Nixon signed six bills into law today, including a measure that would move the presidential primary date to from February to March in the state.

The primary date change is to comply with national party committee rules and “ensure more Missourians have a voice in the nomination process,’ according to Nixon’s statement.

“This measure will help avoid the uncertainty and disruption seen in 2012 and ensure more Missourians have a voice in the nomination process,” Gov. Nixon said. “I thank the legislature for getting this responsible measure to my desk well in advance of the 2016 presidential election.”

Nixon also signed House bill 1064, which eliminates “mentally retarded,” and “mental retardation.” From state statute and replaces the terms with “intellectually disabled.”

Nixon signed several other smaller bills today as well. House Bill 1136 deals with election laws, House Bill 1301, which relates to the police retirement system of Kansas City, House Bill 1656, which corrects an error in the Uniform Anatomical Gifts Act of 2008, all got a gubernatorial signature.

Nixon also signed House Bill 1376, which deals with secured transactions under the Uniform Commercial Code.
