Gov. Nixon statement on nomination of Kevin O’Malley as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Gov. Jay Nixon today issued the following statement regarding the nomination of Kevin O’Malley of St. Louis as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland.

“As Missourians, we are very proud to see one of our own given the high honor of representing the United States to a country that is not only one of our nation’s firmest allies, but also one that holds such strong ties to many Americans,” Gov. Nixon said. “As a distinguished lawyer, dedicated community leader and devout Catholic, Kevin O’Malley is an outstanding choice for this important diplomatic post. This is a proud day for St. Louis, for Missouri, and for our Irish-American community.”

In 2009, Gov. Nixon appointed O’Malley to serve on the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts, the state’s licensing and disciplinary authority for physicians.
