Speaker Pro Tem Hoskins Receives Coveted VFW Legislator of the Year Award

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of Missouri took time last week to recognize the ongoing legislative accomplishments of Speaker Pro Tem Denny Hoskins, R-Warrensburg, on behalf of the patriotic men and women who have served their country. Rep. Hoskins was presented with the Legislator of the Year Award during the annual VFW convention at Springfield, Missouri.

“I am honored to be the recipient of this award and very humbled. It gives me great pride to know the veterans of this state appreciate my efforts to honor and assist them in every way possible,” said Rep. Hoskins. “As a veteran myself, I see it as my duty to do what is right by giving back what we can to those great Americans who have given so much to our nation.”

The award celebrates Rep. Hoskins’ efforts in the Missouri House on behalf of veterans and their families. As the Speaker Pro Tem of the House of Representatives and a member of the Missouri Veterans Commission, Rep. Hoskins has been a significant player in securing the passaging of several important pieces of legislation pertaining to veterans. This year he was the sponsor of legislation that would exempt VFWs from paying workers comp insurance for volunteers. He also played a key role in securing the passage of the veterans’ lottery ticket, sponsored by Rep. Shelia Solon, R-Lee’s Summit.

Each year the VFW presents one Legislator of the Year award to one state representative and one state senator. Senator Kurt Schaefer, R-Columbia was the recipient in the Senate this year.
