Rep. Courtney Allen Curtis Asks for Governor’s Solution to SB 493 Veto
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – State Rep. Courtney Allen Curtis has called into question Governor Nixon’s veto of the student transfer bill, SB 493, and would like Governor Nixon to provide solutions to the student transfer problems that were addressed by the bill.
“The General Assembly worked diligently this session to provide a solution to our failing school districts in Missouri,” said Curtis, D-St. Louis. “Though SB 493 was not perfect, the bill does provide some solutions to the student transfer issue that the governor continuously ignores.”
Representative Curtis further stated, “We have now headed into uncharted territory and this veto leaves us with fewer options. It’s abundantly clear that DESE does not have the right answers or solution, and now with this veto, it has put our children at risk for the following school year. I am unhappy with the governor’s decision and ask that he help us come up with a solution to address the problems that his veto has presented to the future of the children that live within these failing districts. Our children deserve a quality education.”
