State Rep. Eric Burlison Issues Statement in Response
to Supreme Court Ruling on Public Sector Unions

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. –State Rep. Eric Burlison issued the following statement in response to today’s Supreme Court decision to prohibit public-sector unions from taking dues from home health care workers who don’t want to be part of a union:

“I’m encouraged to see the Supreme Court ruling in favor of worker freedom today. It’s clear that union bosses have accumulated too much power when they feel comfortable arguing before the Supreme Court for the right to take money from mothers providing medical care for their own children. We need to extend legal protections against this type of behavior to all Missourians by implementing right to work.”

Burlison, R-Springfield, sponsored worker freedom legislation (HB 1770) during the 2014 legislative session. The bill received initial approval in the House but was not brought up for a final vote. Burlison said he is optimistic the legislature will successfully revisit the issue during the 2015 legislative session.
