Kansas City Area Legislators Support Amendment 1

Kansas City, MO – Area legislators joined the growing coalition supporting Amendment 1 on the August 5th ballot.  Amendment 1, known as the Farming Rights Amendment, puts into Missouri’s constitution the right to participate in farming and ranching practices in the State.  The agriculture industry remains the number one industry in the state and it employs thousands of Missourians.  These protections would ensure that farms in Missouri could continue to operate long into the future.

Amendment 1 has already been endorsed locally by Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, D-Kansas City, Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler, R-Harrisonville, as well as 4 other Missouri members of Congress.  Also supporting the amendment are Missouri Speaker Tim Jones, House Majority Leader John Diehl and dozens of other Representatives and Senators from around the State.

Senator Ryan Silvey, R-Kansas City, said: “Farmers are a huge economic driver in our state, and for many it’s a deep family tradition. They put food on our table and employ Missourians. This is an industry that needs to be protected.”

Representative Donna Pfautsch, R-Harrisonville, who has been in farming all her life, said, “This is one of the more important things I have been a part of in the legislature.  Our farmers work very hard in an industry that is not easy.  We now have an opportunity to protect their livelihood as well as our biggest industry.”
