Primary Wrap Up: Winners

  • Dr. Bob Onder was a big winner with nearly 2/3rds of the vote. He is unopposed in November and will enter the senate as a leading conservative.
  • Jay Ashcroft showed he can win an election setting up a marquee matchup in the fall against Rep. Jill Schupp.

  • Victory Enterprises were huge winners last night. They were with Onder and Ashcroft, as well running the Right to Farm campaign. That’s not even mentioning working on the 26th senatorial district where they avoided a race all together, maybe the biggest winners of the night.
  • Speaking of the 24th, Jack Spooner ran a very respectable race and impressed a lot of people. We understand this is more likely the beginning than the end of his political career.
  • Jeff Roe’s Remington Research Group was spot on in their projections. They called several elections right in a very difficult year to predict a turnout model.
  • Senator Parson was the key figure out front on the pivotal Right to Farm effort. Not even he will be able to completely quiet down statewide ambition rumors after the connections he built this summer.
  • The House Republican caucus was all re-elected despite stout contributions by the Club for Growth. Members like Rep. Fraker likely have some loyal friends returning in January.
  • Congressman Clay proved that he was a loyal friend. He was on the ground working, even walking streets to help re-elect Josh

Peters. He truly went all in and won.

  • Mayor Slay lost a big race in the County Executive’s race, but Stenger won without attacking the merger movement, and he was a crucial cog in the passing of Amendment 1, and further cements his position as the state’s most respected democrat in Jefferson City.
  • Speaking of Amendment 1, Attorney General Chris Koster was able to gain more across the aisle support with his support of Right to Farm and the Mayor’s and the Secretary of State’s last minute support gave him cover on the left.
  • Rep. Carpenter is a big winner with his backing of Lauren Arthur in the race to replace Rep. Swearingen.
  • Reps. Cierpiot and Torpey was very helpful in the election of Rebecca Roeber to replace Rep. Grisamore.
  • Senator Eric Schmitt was an early supporter of Right to Farm, as well as Rep. Rick Stream‘s candidacy for St. Louis County Executive. He was one of the largest major influences in Stream’s success.
  • Barklage and Knodell did a deft job with Rep. Rick Stream’s race, which was much tougher than expected against primary opponent Tony Pousosa, The Stream campaign is prepared for a competitive general election against Steve Stenger.
  • Senator Chappelle-Nadal may have come up short in the races she backed, but neither Peters or Adams were going to be likely allies, but now everyone knows she is willing to put her money where her mouth is.
  • India Williams is a name you will be hearing a lot more of. Her defeat of Bonnaye Mims was a big upset and she is a rising star on the Democratic side.
  • Steve Stenger was a huge winner in St. Louis County. His 36 point win was one that many thought couldn’t be done.
  • Speaking of the County Executive’s race, The Kelley Group had a firm defining night. They endured months of people telling them the race was unwinnable…..right up until their tv started.
  • Labor is also a big winner. Some will question why they weren’t more active in SD 2 and Rep. Bahr’s primary, but they were all-in on the St. Louis County Executive’s race, and they won their race.
  • Common Core opponents certainly made a statement this summer by giving Rep. Lair a major scare.
