FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sept. 3, 2014

Gov. Nixon lifts State of Emergency declared in response to violence in Ferguson

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon today lifted the State of Emergency he declared on Aug. 16 in response to violent unrest in the City of Ferguson.

“Over the past week, we’ve seen students getting back to school, businesses reopening their doors and folks getting back to their normal routines,” Gov. Nixon said. “This progress is a testament to the efforts of community and faith leaders, working alongside state and local law enforcement officers, to bring peace to the streets of Ferguson and much-needed stability to its citizens.”

The Governor’s action today terminates both Executive Order 14-08, issued on Aug. 16, which established a state of emergency due to civil unrest occurring in the City of Ferguson, and Executive Order 14-09, issued on Aug. 18, which activated the Missouri National Guard for the limited mission of providing security at the unified command center. The National Guard completed its role on Aug. 26. The unified command center was closed on Aug 27.

A copy of the executive order can be found here.
