Gov. Nixon appoints David Steelman to the University of Missouri Board of Curators
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed David Steelman, of Rolla, to serve on the University of Missouri Board of Curators, which oversees the operation of the four-campus University of Missouri System.
“David is an accomplished professional, a respected public servant and proud University of Missouri alum,” Gov. Nixon said. “I am confident his depth of experience and commitment to higher education will serve the students, faculty and staff of the University of Missouri well in his new role as a member of the Board of Curators.”
Steelman, a Republican, is managing and senior partner at Steelman, Gaunt and Horsefield in Rolla, and has operated a law practice since 1978. He served three terms in the Missouri House of Representatives beginning in 1979, including two terms as the Republican floor leader.
Steelman earned his undergraduate in economics from the University of Missouri and graduated first in his class from the University of Missouri Law School. In addition to his law practice, Steelman has been active in his community, currently serving on the board of directors for Town & Country Bank and previously serving on the board of trustees for the Missouri State Employees Retirement System and the Missouri Law Foundation, as well as the board of directors for the Missouri Corporation for Science and Technology.
Steelman will represent the Eighth Congressional District on the board; the Governor has appointed him to a term ending Jan. 1, 2019. The appointment will be subject to approval by the Missouri Senate.
