Public Invited to Weigh In on State Freight Plan

JEFFERSON CITY — Over the last several months the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has been working with stakeholders across the state to identify opportunities and actions to improve Missouri’s freight transportation system. The plan’s purpose is to help meet the current and future needs of Missouri businesses and increase economic development and jobs.  The draft freight plan builds on one of the critical areas identified by Missourians in MoDOT’s On the Move long range planning process completed earlier this year.

“The freight plan will guide any future federal and state freight funding available to Missouri and provide the foundation for how we work with our freight partners statewide,” said MoDOT Freight and Waterways Administrator Cheryl Ball.

There are several ways to provide input during the month of October.

·        Review the plan located at www.MoFreightPlan.org and complete a short survey or provide general comments.

·        Join the webinar on Tuesday, October 14 from 9 to 10 a.m. MoDOT will provide an overview of the plan, including its conclusions and recommendations. Email chsmith@burnsmcd.com to RSVP and receive a link to access the webinar.

·        Request a speaker for a group presentation about the draft freight plan by emailing chsmith@burnsmcd.com

“We appreciate the hundreds of freight and industry stakeholders, including logistics directors, shipping managers and economic development professionals who have worked with MoDOT to guide the development of this draft plan,” said Ball. “The comment period provides the chance to make sure we heard everyone’s concerns as we finalize the plan.”

The draft plan will be available for public input through October 31.  The finalized plan will be presented to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission in early 2015.
