PRESS RELEASE: Schmitt Rakes in Nearly Three-Quarters of a Million Dollars Since Statewide Announcement on July 2

Smashes Record for Cash On Hand for Down-Ticket Races

Glendale, Mo. – A new fundraising report shows that State Senator Eric Schmitt has raised nearly three-quarters of a million dollars in just three months since announcing for Missouri Treasurer, a huge haul for a candidate running statewide.*  With an eye-popping $726,700.66 raised since announcing his candidacy on July 2, Schmitt now has over $1.58 million cash on hand, more than any down-ballot candidate ever in Missouri at this time in the election cycle.

No other Missouri candidate in a down-ballot race has ever raised this much this early, or had this much cash on hand two years ahead of the general election.  Fundraising is a key component for campaigns in Missouri, demonstrating support and organizational strength.

In fact, Schmitt has stockpiled more funds than all candidates for either party’s primary in the last election cycle had at this same time period, combined.  A review of the reports from previous Republican and Democrat candidates for down-ballot races (Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Auditor, Treasurer and Attorney General) show Schmitt shattering previous amounts raised and on-hand at the third-quarter mark preceding the election cycle in which they are running. Schmitt will be on the ballot for Missouri Treasurer in November 2016.

“What this report shows is overwhelming and confident support for Eric Schmitt, his campaign and the big ideas he will bring to the Missouri Treasurer’s office,” said Rich Chrismer, a spokesperson for Eric Schmitt.  “As more Missourians get to know Eric and his record on private-sector job creation, taxpayer advocacy and fiscal responsibility, we believe this help and support will only continue to grow.”

Since announcing his candidacy, Schmitt has already raised more in a single quarter than the previous Republican candidate for State Treasurer raised in the entire 2012 election cycle. In addition, Schmitt’s current cash on hand, two years before the 2016 election, nearly caught Clint Zweifel’s successful total re-election spending during his 2012 campaign ($1.8 million). In the 2008 election cycle, Treasurer candidates Clint Zweifel and Brad Lager each spent just above of $1 million on their campaigns.  Schmitt has already well exceeded this total two yeas ahead of the 2016 election cycle.

*Schmitt’s third quarter fundraising report covers July, August and September and includes the 8-Day report from July 1, 2014 – July 24, 2014 and the 3Q Report that includes resources raised from July 25, 2014 – Sept. 30, 2014.
