Senator Blunt To Serve As Chairman Of Appropriations Labor-HHS-Education Subcommittee In 114th Congress |

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) was chosen today to serve as Chairman of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies for the 114th Congress. The subcommittee oversees funding related to the U.S. Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services (HHS), and Education and 14 Related Agencies. That jurisdiction includes funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). To read more about the subcommittee’s specific areas of jurisdiction, click here. “I’m pleased to lead this subcommittee, which oversees one-third of all non-defense discretionary spending in the federal government,” said Blunt. “Almost all of the president’s health care law is paid for by mandatory spending, and therefore falls under the jurisdiction of the Senate Finance Committee. However, this subcommittee will have a chance to directly address some of the most pressing issues brought forth by ObamaCare, including the administration’s proposed cuts to cancer screenings and immunization programs.” “Our top domestic priority should be creating more opportunity for American families and workers. This subcommittee will address ways to improve workforce training, veterans’ training, access to higher education, and other ways to help more people succeed,” Blunt continued. “I also hope to put more focus on strengthening mental health care and increasing NIH research to ensure people have better access to the high-quality cures they need.” “I have every reason to expect I’ll stay on both the agriculture and defense appropriations subcommittees, and I’ll look forward to continuing focusing on these areas for Missourians,” Blunt concluded. # # # |
