Gov. Nixon praises confirmation of Nia Ray as Director of the Missouri Department of Revenue

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon is praising the confirmation of Nia Ray as the new Director of the Missouri Department of Revenue. The Missouri Senate today confirmed the Governor’s nominee to the Cabinet position; she began working as director of the Department on Dec. 1.

“Nia Ray has brought extensive leadership experience and skills to the top position with the Department of Revenue, and I appreciate the Senate for confirming her to this post,” Gov. Nixon said. “The Department of Revenue has extensive day-to-day interaction in serving Missouri businesses and individuals, and Director Ray will help the Department continue to operate as efficiently and effectively as possible.”

Ray previously was Director of the Division of Employment Security within the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, and also had served as director of the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center. In 2009, Ray was appointed as executive director of Missouri’s Workforce Investment Board within the Department of Economic Development. She also served as assistant legal counsel in the office of the Governor and the Office of Administration before entering private legal practice in 2005. Ray graduated Cum Laude from Spelman College in Atlanta, and earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois.
