RELEASE: State Rep. Sheila Solon Participates in National Panel to Discuss Access for Cancer Patients to Innovative New Treatments

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – State Rep. Sheila Solon recently took part in a national panel to discuss efforts to improve access to innovative new treatments for cancer patients. Solon was part of the Right Patient; Right Treatments: Right Now! discussion hosted by Vital Options International that took place Sunday, May 31.

Solon championed the cause of cancer patients in Missouri when she sponsored legislation during the 2014 session to provide cost effective access to oral chemotherapy medications. She joined several other national cancer advocates in a discussion moderated by Jonathan Wilcox, who serves as public policy director for Vital Options International. The group discussed the topics of removing barriers to access and expediting the approval process for patients seeking cancer treatments.

“It was an incredible experience to take part in this discussion that included some of the most prominent voices in cancer advocacy here in the United States,” said Solon, R-Blue Springs.

She added, “We made a significant stride forward with the passage of SB 668 last year, but we still have a great deal of work to do to ensure all Missourians battling cancer have access to the affordable, quality care that will allow them to live better, longer lives. I want to thank the panel and VOI for opening my eyes to the other issues we need to look at as a state going forward.”
