What’s Catherine Hanaway up to?

JOPLIN, Mo. – The first announced gubernatorial candidate has been making fewer waves than the first few months of her campaign, but maybe that’s because Catherine Hanaway has been hitting the trail full force.

“The campaign is going great,” Hanaway told The Missouri Times. “Our campaign has held five fundraising events in the past month while maintaining a robust traveling schedule to all corners of the state to continue building the largest grassroots army in Missouri.”

Just this month, Hanaway was in Joplin speaking on Right to Work (which she says she would sign if she were governor) and spent time with St. Louis veterans on Flag Day. She was on the radio in West Plains, was interviewed on Missouri Viewpoints, and committed to a gubernatorial forum in Butler County, which set for September. She’s increased her grassroots support throughout parts if rural Missouri, raising some eyebrows on social media, all while putting her team into full gear.

Right to Work has taken the forefront on Hanaway’s campaign agenda, and she said she will be actively lobbying the General Assembly in hopes of a veto override.

“Right to Work is the number one policy change Missouri can make right now to compete for quality jobs and create sustained economic growth,” Hanaway said. “I plan to speak to as many voters as possible about how they can help from a grassroots level to communicate to their friends, family and legislators why Right to Work is right for Missouri.”

Beyond Right to Work, Hanaway has been hearing a variety of concerns from Missourians and perhaps one of the larger concerns of Missourians is government overreach.

“The concern I hear most often is our current Governor has not fought the federal government’s overreach into their everyday lives,” Hanaway said. “Time and time again, voters on the campaign trail tell me they want a Governor who will stand up against federal government expansions such as Common Core and the new onerous EPA regulations. Missourians deserve a governor who will stand up for their individuals liberties against an overreaching federal government. As Speaker, I stood up for average Missourians against government overreach and will do the same as Governor.”

Despite her aggressive and enthusiastic campaigning all over the state, Hanaway is continuing to spend as much time with her family as possible, saying her, her husband, and two children try to be adventurous, even biking the Katy Trail.
