State Budget Director Linda Luebbering will retire August 6, Gov. Nixon announces

Dan Haug, director of the Department of Mental Health’s Administrative Services Division, will serve as Acting State Budget Director

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon today announced that State Budget Director Linda Luebbering will be retiring from state government service on August 6.  Dan Haug, currently the director of the Administrative Services Division at the Missouri Department of Mental Health, will serve as acting State Budget Director.

“A public servant who matches her unwavering integrity and intellect with patience and professionalism – Linda Luebbering has been an invaluable asset to this administration and to all the people of Missouri,” Gov. Nixon said. “What sets Linda apart is her deep understanding of policy, and the very human impact budgets and policies have on the people and communities we serve.”

Luebbering has served as State Budget Director since 2009. From 2004 to 2009, she served as the Fiscal Management Director for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.  Previously, she worked in various departments within Missouri state government, including as State Budget Director and in other budget and statistical analysis positions.  Luebbering graduated summa cum laude with a degree in economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia.  She also has a masters degree in public administration is from the University of Missouri– Columbia.

Dan Haug is the director of the Division of Administrative Services at the Missouri Department of Mental Health, where he is responsible for planning, implementing and managing Department-wide administrative functions, including budget and accounting.  As a member of the Department’s senior leadership team, Haug has played a key role in making improvements to programs benefiting Missourians with behavioral and developmental challenges.

Previously, Haug served as an economist, budget analyst and then director of the Senate Appropriations Committee staff.  From 1995 to 2002, Haug was an economist and budget analyst at the Office of Administration’s Division of Budget &Planning.

“Having spent 20 years in state budget analysis and management in both the executive and legislative branches, Dan brings a truly unique level of experience to this important office,” Gov. Nixon said. “I appreciate his willingness to step into this important role and am confident he will continue to serve the State of Missouri with distinction.”

The Division of Budget and Planning assists the Commissioner of Administration and the Governor in management of the executive branch. The division analyzes budget policy issues and provides fiscal information to the commissioner, the governor’s office, the General Assembly, Missouri’s congressional delegation, and state, local, and federal agencies.
