IBEW President Lonnie Stephenson Criticizes Grain Belt Express Decision

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers International President Lonnie Stephenson issued the following statement today in response to the Missouri Public Service Commission’s decision to block development of the Grain Belt Express power line project:

“I am highly disappointed with the Public Service Commission’s ruling on the Grain Belt project. The Grain Belt Express means clean energy, good jobs and affordable electricity – three things Missouri and the nation are in great need of.

“Our current electrical infrastructure is outdated and unable to meet the challenge of connecting consumers with alternative energy sources such as wind. The Grain Belt Express would bring 500 megawatts of green, wind-generated power to Missouri homes and businesses, while creating good-paying jobs throughout the region.

“I ask commission members to reconsider their decision. The IBEW will continue in our efforts to make the Grain Belt Express a reality for the Midwest.”
