Kraus Applauds Efforts to Arm National Guard

Today, Senator Will Kraus issued a statement in support of arming Missouri’s National Guard. Kraus is both an active member of Missouri’s National Guard and has a concealed carry permit. …

“When I’m at a military installation, I’m not allowed to have a weapon in my car, which makes it difficult to carry a weapon on my way to and from my place of duty or even on a lunch break,” said Kraus.

As a civilian, Kraus is allowed to carry concealed weapon. However, in uniform, he is not. Kraus is currently an active member of the Missouri National Guard and served as a Chinook Pilot in Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq.

“Solidiers are willing to defend our freedoms and our constitution in combat – and they risk their lives every day – they should at least be able to defend themselves and their families on American soil.”

In addition, Kraus supports making it easier for those that are enlisted to receive a concealed carry permit.

“I will follow the lead of the governor on this issue, as a soldier – he is my Commander-In-Chief. However, I would ask that he hear the concerns of fellow legislators and consider their plans to allow soldiers to protect themselves when in uniform.”

“I know the members of the guard receive weapons training and so do other members of the armed services, said Kraus. “ We can use proof of that same training to make it easier for those who serve to get a concealed carry permit.”
