Auditor Galloway releases Monroe County audit report

County earns “fair” performance rating

JEFFERSON CITY (Sept. 22, 2015) Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has released an audit of Monroe County. The report includes information collected for the 2014 audit year and lists the county’s overall performance rating as “fair.” Prior to this report, Monroe County’s most recent audit was released in September 2011. That report also included a performance rating of “fair.”

“The citizens of Monroe County deserve transparency and accountability from their government,” Galloway said. “The audit findings and recommendations in this report are provided so that local officials can efficiently serve the residents of Monroe County.”

Audit staff noted findings in four areas, including prosecuting attorney’s controls and procedures, sheriff’s controls and procedures, county procedures, and the Senate Bill 40 Board.

The audit recommends the prosecuting attorney ensure reviews of accounting records are performed, consistently issue and record receipts, and prepare formal bank reconciliations on a monthly basis. The audit also recommends the sheriff’s office perform independent or supervisory reviews of accounting records and ensure commissary profits are turned over to the appropriate fund.
