Climate petitions to be delivered to Nixon by canoe

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Thousands of petitions addressing climate change will reportedly be delivered to Gov. Jay Nixon via canoe and paddle board today.

The Missouri Clean Energy Coalition is organizing the stunt, which will take the petitions from Cooper’s Landing in Columbia to the Capitol this morning. This morning’s send off heard speakers ranging from fields of faith, agriculture and health.

The team of six canoes and a stand up paddle boarder will travel 26 miles. The journey will take seven hours.

After arrival, the team will meet with staff in the Governor’s office and drop off petitions. The groups will urge Nixon to support policies that bring new clean energy investment to Missouri communities, which the group says will strengthen local tax bases, create family-sustaining jobs and curb pollution.
